Straight answers about Color Country Chatter — the Hometown Chatter site for Cedar City, Beaver, Panguitch, Escalante and the high country between Cedar Breaks and Bryce Canyon.
Common questions
Q1 What is Color Country Chatter?
Color Country Chatter is the Hometown Chatter site for Color Country (Iron, Beaver, and Garfield counties). We publish local alerts, high school and SUU (college) scores, mountain bike results, good news, trails, and local deals — real numbers and official sources only. We are part of Hometown Chatter; sister live region: DixieChatter in Southern Utah.
Q2 Which places do you cover?
Iron, Beaver, and Garfield counties. Focus area: Cedar City metro — Cedar City, Beaver, Panguitch, Escalante (and Iron/Beaver/Garfield towns such as Enoch, Parowan, Brian Head, Milford, Minersville, Tropic and Boulder). Washington and Kane counties — St. George, Hurricane, Zion and Kanab — stay with DixieChatter. Content outside those counties belongs on another Utah region site or the national hub.
Q3 How do high school scores work?
We post verified scores and records as soon as an official source confirms them. Sources: UHSAA (its football pages and official bracket programs) and the school’s own athletics pages; SUU scores come from suutbirds.com. We never use MaxPreps. Cards stay empty until a number is verified. Every posted score shows a timestamp (America/Denver) and the named source. Schools on our board: Cedar, Canyon View, Parowan, Beaver, Milford, Panguitch, Escalante, Bryce Valley and Southern Utah University (SUU).
Q4 Where do mountain bike results come from?
Utah High School Cycling League / NICA results come from utahmtb.org and RaceResult only. Local races need an official posted result. We do not invent placements or times. Example: at the Oct. 23–24, 2026 state championships, RaceResult 427826 lists Cedar HS 30th in Division 2 (1,270 points) and Iron County Comp 34th in Division 2 (1,021 points).
Q5 How do you handle weather and road alerts?
Alerts come from NWS, UDOT, and local emergency offices for Iron, Beaver, and Garfield counties. Each alert card shows when we last checked and the issuing agency. Clear or expired alerts are removed or labeled — we do not leave stale warnings up as current. Forecasts come from NWS Salt Lake City, with separate point forecasts for Cedar City, Beaver, Milford, Panguitch town and Bryce Canyon National Park.
Q6 Are you live yet?
Not yet. This is a partner preview: every page is noindex with a visible “Partner preview — not launched” banner, and feedback is welcome. It launches when the region launches.
Q7 Who runs this / how can I trust it?
Hometown Chatter is local-first news for Utah regions. Editorial rule: cite the source, use real numbers, publish fast, no fluff. Photos are either ours or free public-domain / openly licensed images with credit on the page — our header photo is the Cedar Breaks amphitheater, an NPS public-domain photo. Income is AdSense and platform payouts only — we do not sell ads into the feed.
Q8 How do social posts relate to the site?
Every social post about a story should open the page that story lives on. We write unique local copy; we do not boost or buy placements until there is an approved revenue path.
